Artist's Comments

Another experimental painting. David LeMaye and Holy Hicky Hell.

This one is most fun in comparison to Merlin's pic. It's growing on me. I like this style; I like letting the colors and lbrush strokes speak for themselves. I've also been experimenting a lot with vertical brush strokes because I like what gouache does with it.

I'm amazed at how much I've painted lately. I think gouache and I are forming a beautiful friendship, even if the tubes puke all over me sometimes when I open them (what on earth do they make that stuff out of?) It's a neat media: though it can be mischievous, it is endlessly flexible, and it's much more organic and less brash than acrylic. (Acrylic is all RAR NO I WON'T BLEND and Watercolor and Ink are like HAHA I DRIED ALREADY SUCKER and Oil is just a snob) Much love for the gouache!

the composition and mood here are absolutely beautiful. I kind of don't like how his legs get cut off though, but them's the limits of the paper, i guess. Wonderful freckly face.

i like how he kinda fades in with the background. his legs and hand look cool.

Yay! I like this style too, it portrays so much emotion and feel, rather than just a snapshot of a scene. There's so much left up to the imagination that it really pulls the viewer in to try and figure out what's really going on; and by doing that, it allows them to create their own ideas.
I agree, though, that I don't like how he's floating and there's nothing to "ground" him, since you can't see his legs. I do really like the faint brush strokes to the right of him, though, they help give a sense of his surroundings without becoming to concrete.
You should give oils another try, they blend even when you don't want 'em to. ^^;
